Getting 3 weeks out of your gel nail wraps isn't luck — it's prep and technique. Here are the 7 things that make the biggest difference.
1. Start With Completely Clean, Oil-Free Nails
Oil is the enemy of adhesion. Before applying, wash your hands, push back cuticles, and wipe each nail with rubbing alcohol or a nail prep wipe. Skip moisturiser on application day.
2. Lightly Buff the Nail Surface
A gentle buff (just enough to remove shine) gives the wrap something to grip. Don't over-file — you just want to break the surface gloss.
3. Size Down, Not Up
When in between sizes, always go smaller. A wrap that touches your skin at the sides will lift from the edges within days.
4. Press and Seal the Edges
After applying, use a cuticle stick or your fingernail to firmly press down the edges and tip. This seals out water and prevents early lifting.
5. File Downward, Not Across
When removing the excess at the free edge, file in a downward motion only. Filing back and forth can cause the wrap to peel upward.
6. Cure Fully
Hold your hand flat and still under the UV/LED lamp for the full cure time (usually 60 seconds). Partial curing = softer gel = shorter wear.
7. Protect Your Tips
Gel nail wraps wear fastest at the tips. Wear gloves for cleaning and dishes, and avoid using your nails as tools. A quick top coat over the free edge after a week can extend wear significantly.
